Yes the game is easy for a new player to get adjust right in however to be able to build and sustain a huge empire with perfect housing for both citizens and army is pretty intense! One will have to juggle with all trades like industry,distribution,water,safely,hygiene,environment,trade and most importantly pleasing the Gods.
Housing
The secret to playing the game is to first handle a working industrial and build it up to size for trade to have a sufficient flow of income coming in. Once that has been accomplished, next up is to set up the living conditions to further improve your citizens need. Roads and buildup plans of your city are highly important as they affect the flow of your game when you start to grow its population larger and resources starts to diminish to suit everyone's need.The same applies to water,safely,environment and hygiene must have equal distribution in all your housing area to make the best of your people.

Industries & Distribution
Industry is a big factor in the game as it be your best bet at getting a good steady income. I never believe in using high taxes to gain income as it just cause unrest in the happy and may lead to triggering of riot among the people (unless trade is really low then you don't really have an option).
I particularly love the animation of how the industry works and how they process some of the material for trading purposes. Industries also require a high amount of manpower for the workforce which add challenges to the game. It is not easy to juggle a workforce with enough workers and a low unemployment rate as the game randomizes a certain amount of people leaving and coming in to your city as time goes by.
Below I'll show you a couple of industries in the game.
Wheat Farms are your best bet for a high steady flow of food for your people. Wheat is also in high demand as they are needed to produce horses for your army.
Fertile fields can be used to also grow both grapevine and olive trees. Above is a olive tree plantation used to grow olives which can be process into olive oil - high demand wanted by your citizens.
Olive press used to process olives into Olive Oil.
Marble Refinery and Timber Mill used to gather marble and wood for trade and building purposes.
Grapes are being held at a storehouse temporary before pushing out to the winery to produce wine.
Mint factories are build and producers worker to mine mint before processing to more money for you.
Onion Farms are another stable mean of food for your people.
Vineyard where grapes are produce before making them to wine at the winery.
More farming plantation used only on fertile soils.
Carding sheep is high useful as its used to produce fleece from your herd. Fleece are in high demand by all household and its good to have a good supply on reserve.
Lastly a horse ranch is being set up near the wheat farm as they require a high supply of wheat to feed and grow the horses. The horses are then distributed to the elite housing to accompany for cavalry soldiers.
Army & Elite Housing
A full array of Elite Housing fully upgraded. Fully upgraded Elite Housing produces cavalry where else a normal elite housing supports hoplite.
As you can see, Elite Housing requires a ton of resource to maintain and are very costly. They are considered the very top of the society and must be pampered well. The environment and neighborhood they stay around must be of high level of demand and needs much beautifying of the environment.
The Agora for distributing resources to the elite housing also uses a grand type which allows the full 6 vendors to open their shops there. The addition of armory, wine and horses are for the elite housing to build up their army.
For a build army, you also need a big constant supply or resource else the elite houses will diminish very quickly. Best is to prepare an individual storage of resources just for the elite housing neighborhood.
Being the elite of society, they want nothing but the best. Every elite housing requires access to the one and only Colosseum you can build. This requires much strategic planning to the city planning if you want to have a big amount of elite houses to supply you with a strong army.
Lastly, the Temple of Zeus with a full army of cavalry and full battle triremes at your command! This is the maximum size and strongest army you can have in the game.
Gods
Gods addition are a must to your city. They aid you in need and listen to your prayers. Each God has their unique abilities and even the gods themselves have a hierarchy system to see who out best the other. Having a strong God in your aid will turn the tide of war between victory and defeat from a battle too against invasion of armies,monsters of even other Gods attacking your city!

Below is a list of favorite common Gods that can found on most maps (well every map is limited to the type of gods you can build so it be a balanced game). The maximum number of temples you can build to the gods are capped at 4 so depending on the game map and resources, plan your gods well!
The temple of Athena is a very valuable additional to your city. Athena will bless your city with supply of olives and when enemies invade your city, she will turn up and destroy their armies to help you win the war.
The temple of Demeter is a best support additional to your city. Demeter temple surrounding areas is converted to fertile files which can be used for plantation or farms. She will bless your plantation to produce faster and her blessings will to supply your granaries with abundance of food.
The temple of Ares is a best offensives additional to your city. Ares will supply you a fire breathing dragon which will roam round your city to protect you against enemies invasion or wild animals killing your citizens. Ares also support you with a platoon of his soldiers which are strong in combat. Lastly Ares blesses you by going to war with your army which will end up a high probability of conquering over an enemy territory.
The temple of Apollo and Artemis are both a strong duo. Being brother and sister, they both will swirl their bow to aid you.
Apollo will bless all your philosophy and scientist to make them smarter, this will increase culture in your city and upgrade the society of your people thus better houses and more population. Apollo blessing will also heal your people and cure any disease and plague in your city. In the event of a monster invading your city, Apollo will be the first to fly there and slay the monster with his mighty bow. His temple also provides an oracle (just like Zeus) that helps you predict the future.
Artemis on the other hand being the goddess of hunt will bless your hunters to be stronger and able to hunt any predator or prey for food efficiently. She will blessing you with her steady aim of bow and a supply of meat for your people. Building her temple also provides you with an archer army guided by the goddess herself,thus proving to be a strong aid to your army.
Lastly, Aphrodite is a wonderful goddess to have in your city as she will bless your household making your citizens happier and to stay in your city longer. Her blessings also include attracting more population to your city and prevent unrest in the city.
Besides temples, you can also build up shrines to the Gods to please them. A shrine to the God is given to you when you help accomplish a task being issued to you by the Gods themselves.
Shrines will help to build up favor with the Gods and improve the quality of your environment.
Heroes
Heroes are a value add to your city. You get them upon request on a task by the Gods.Building up a hero hall to summon the hero is not easy as require a number of pre-task to be fulfilled. However they are all worth the effort as even after accomplishing their task,they will remain in your city to protect your city from enemy invasion and monsters (subjected to the monsters they can slay).
It is also wise to build your palace near Gods Temple or Heroes Hall as they stand as a form of your army and governance of the city. If your palace falls in battle, it is deemed you have been conquered by the enemies.

The famous Perseus who slay the Medusa. He is patrolling round the palace vicinity and guarding it.
Poseidon Expansion
The expansion adds a whole lot of content into the game making it more interesting. Introducing the main Atlanteans race to be player. The expansion also includes addition of other races and empires being used by the enemy.
The Atlanteans race housing buildings are differentiate by green and the elite houses are purple instead of the standard red color. They also don't bask in sports and philosophy instead researching into scientific experiments and astronomy. Their armies are also different consisting of archers and chariots to conquer their enemies.
Push carts of resources are also being changed to Elephants and additional resource contents like oranges,black marble and orichalc.
Lastly, new additions of Gods including Atlas and Hera are added into the game to turn the tide of game. & Yes finally Zeus can be defeated by another God - Hera.
The new houses in green and a laboratory used to advance the limitations of science and chemistry is being practiced there.
An observatory to study astronomy is being constructed. There is also an university there to educate the people to work in the observatory.
Orange plantation used to produce oranges as a food source to people. It may look nice and presentable however the food supply being produced is a lot lesser compare to the farms.
Fishery is also a good source of food for the people, however they may take a long time to gather as depending on the fishing spot location and how far your wharf is built from it.
Black marble are a rare mineral and demand for building of temples and large structures. There are also highly valued in the market for trade.
The new Chariot Elite Houses which is the strongest army for the Atlanteans.

Lastly the newest addition of the temple of Hera! Finally there is a God to subdue Zeus. Hera blesses your agora and replenishes their supplies when low, a very useful God which produces various supplies for the people.
